Compression
circuits apply different amounts of amplification depending on the
loudness of the sounds entering the microphone. Quiet sounds will be
amplified more than louder sounds. This makes the hearing aid more
comfortable to wear in a wider range of listening environments, and
reduces the need for volume control adjustments. Compression
circuits are available in all ear-level hearing aid styles.
